Myofascial Cupping.
What is it and how does it work?
Myofascial cupping is a modified version of the ancient Eastern style cupping which differs by specifically targeting the musculoskeletal system rather than the meridian systems used by traditional Chinese practitioners.
Plastic cups and vacuum suction are used to lift the soft tissue up, promoting blood flow and oxygen to come into the area.
What are the benefits?
The benefits:
- Increases nutrient rich blood supply to injured areas
- Increases fluid movement which aids recovery
- Passively stretches myofascial tissue = increased range of movement
- Reduces localised inflammation
- Breaks up and expels congestion
What conditions can cupping help with?
- Neck and back pain
- Muscle strain and sprains
- Muscle imbalances and tightness
- Musculoskeletal pain and injuries
- Sporting injuries, eg. ITB Syndrome
- Plantar fasciitis
What to expect from a treatment.
Through general massage the therapist identifies the areas that would benefit from cupping.
The amount of cups used is dependent on the size of the area being worked on. Whilst the cups are in place the therapist may instruct you to carry out movement in order to create a further theraputic stretch on the soft tissue.
Cupping should be pain free and marking should be kept to a minimum, however in areas of dysfunction you may experience some marking, which should disappear within several days.
Sarah is a fantastic massage therapist who is knowledgeable, skilled and professional. She is warm and welcoming and instantly put me at ease. Sarah listened carefully to the areas I needed addressing and regularly checked in to make sure the pressure used was comfortable. I was shown exercises to practice between appointments and Sarah’s care and attention exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend!
